The painting combines Vienna's Karlskirche and a detail of Ruben's "The Four Continents" depicting a tigress, protecting her cubs. There's a fire in the window of the church.

The inspiration for the painting was a tiger, which escaped Zirkus Rebbernig on August 23. 1944. The animal was subsequently shot.
